We help our first ever “Wear it Pink” day to raise money and awareness for breast cancer; we had pink cakes, pink hats, pink tops and some pink nails. Thank you to everyone who helped to raise £63 .
Woodleigh Christian Care Home is officially 30 years young! opening in September 1988, Woodleigh has served the community of Mansfield through a number of generations now, and we have loved every minute of it. And with this being our 30th birthday, we knew we had to do something special, and we knew that one event wouldn’t be enough. Instead we dedicated the entire month of September to celebrating this amazing achievement.
We started our celebrations with a dedication service. One of our resident’s families kindly donated a beautiful
tapestry depicting ‘The Last Supper’ to Woodleigh after she sadly passed away. The service was held by our Chaplain Helen Curzon and some very special people who have been part of Woodleigh’s history joined us, one of whom was Hazel Williams who was the driving force behind Woodleigh’s birth in 1988 and was the very first Manager! It was a beautiful service and was an event that we will remember for a long time.
We also held an cheese and wine night followed by an auction to raise money for the ‘Friends of Woodleigh’ charity which pays for activities and events for the residents. The auction included items that had been donated by Mansfield palace Theatre, Trent Bridge, Mansfield Town Football Club and many more. It was an event filled with fun and laughter, and thanks to the generosity of all of our bidders we raised an incredible £396!
Our activities team were hard at work throughout September making sure that there was something happening each and every day and it was an amazing atmosphere to be a part of. With all of the memories of the past 30 years being shared, we can’t wait to make new ones over the next 30 years. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of Woodleigh on our journey so far, and we hope you join us into the future.
Yesterday we had a lovely Impromptu day out with our friends from Baily House. We climbed about the WoodleighCare minibus and headed accross to Rufford Abbey Country Park to make the most of the beautiful sunshine!
The Catering team made us a lovely picnic to take with us including sandwiches, crisps, and of course lots of cake! We also visited the Ice Cream Truck to get an age old classic of the 99! (Flake optional)
It was so lovely to spend time by the lake, feeding the ducks and the geese, but above all else it was lovely to enjoy the cool breeze and warm sun some good friends to share it with!
Each year we host our annual Summer Fayre in July when the weather is on our side (hopefully) and the summer
sun lets us enjoy the beautiful gardens that Woodleigh has to offer.
This year was no exception, and the sun was out with plenty of warm rays to fill the air, with cakes, drinks and games to enjoy. From tombolas to raffles, bric-a-brac to crocheted gifts, there was no shortage of things to buy, and equally no shortage of amazing volunteers who gave up their time to join the fun and make the day a success.
In total we raised a fantastic £441 for the ‘Friends of Woodleigh’ charity who do an amazing job raising money which pays for activities and events at Woodleigh.
A massive thank you to everybody who joined us and helped us raise such a wonderful amount!
We would like to use this opportunity to say a massive congratulations to Laura, one of our amazing shift leaders,
who married her soul mate yesterday.
The staff and residents wanted to do something special for her to wish her well and to make sure that she had Woodleigh with her on the day so we presented her with a box of presents that she could keep and use through her marriage to Ash and to enjoy on the day, including her favourite chocolates, a set of Mr & Mrs mugs and a bridegroom pair of rubber ducks.
We are all so proud of you Laura and may you live happily ever after.
