On Thursday 25th July – the hottest day of the year so far – we went into the garden and enjoyed the sunshine. We set up the paddling pool and provided ice creams for everyone to enjoy, whether they were out in the garden or staying inside.
Saturday 20th July saw our annual summer fair. It was a buzz of buying and selling along with eating and drinking. Everyone’s great efforts made an amazing £650.47 which goes to our charity “The Friends of Woodleigh”. Thank you to everyone who helped, contributed, we had many old friends returning to support the raffle and the stalls. Thank you from the Ambitions Team: Rachel, Marian and Katy.
Today we unveiled the “magic table” at both Woodleigh and Baily House . We would like to thank everyone who raised money and gave so generously to help us to purchase such an amazing product. It is amazing and has many interactive features specifically designed for those with dementia or other impairment. It can play music and videos from different eras, link to the internet, stimulate conversation and movement. It is large enough for groups to play scrabble on it, and small and portable enough to be taken into bedrooms for those less mobile. Thank you again to friends, relatives, resident and staff for making this possible. Today our lovely student Alysha spoke to us about her visit to Pakistan to visit her grandparents and family. She wore traditional clothes, and spoke about her culture. Our residents asked her lots of questions which she answered in great detail. We enjoyed looking at her photos.
These are a unique set of poems written by Roy Smedley and Ben Norris as part of the “Voices” project. Roy had written poetry all his life and gave his permission to ben to share these special memories.
